The fig tree ( Ficus carica ) belongs to the mulberry family and is becoming more and more popular with us. Thanks to hardy varieties, it can also be planted outdoors and only needs to be covered in winter to avoid frost damage. However, the young plants are only allowed to grow in the pot , as they are initially more susceptible to frost and can therefore be overwintered better. The fig tree needs to be in a warm, sunny spot with no drafts to thrive. Planted out, it can grow up to 10 meters in a good spot. It flowers in spring and the fruits can be harvested from late summer.
