The cherries ( Prunus avium ) are divided into two types: sweet cherries (up to 20 m) and sour cherries ( up to 7 m). As the name suggests, the fruits of the sweet cherry taste much sweeter than those of the sour cherry. An advantage is that the sour cherries do not burst due to their low sugar content . The trees bloom in spring and the first fruits can be harvested from May to August. The trees like to be in full sun . In winter, the younger trees should still be covered to avoid possible frost damage. This is no longer necessary for older people .
