chard

Mangold - FARBIO® - Nachhaltige Bio-Flüssigdünger aus Hamburg

Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris var . flavescens ) and leaf chard (Beta vulgaris var . cicla ) belong to the foxtail family ( Amaranthaceae ) and originate from the Mediterranean region . In both variants, the colorful stems and green leaves are edible, but the stem chard has the broader stems, while the leaf chard has larger leaves . The vegetable plant, which is related to the beetroot, is suitable for beginners because it can withstand frost and is ready to harvest about 8 weeks after sowing . It is sown from April and can then be harvested continuously from June to October , because Swiss chard always grows back . Chard likes sunny to semi-shady and needs a lot of water. The vegetable plant can also be cultivated in a pot indoors on the windowsill .
