The cucumber ( Cucumis sativus ) belongs to the cucurbit family. The plant grows climbing or creeping and can spread very far. The fruits can vary in size, shape and color depending on the species. The classic garden cucumber is green, around 20 cm long and has a rough surface. Cucumbers can be grown from mid-March and planted out or sowed outdoors from mid-May. You should build a trellis for it, otherwise it will grow over the entire bed. The location must be sunny and sheltered from the wind . The cucumber must be watered often because it needs a lot of water. It is also a heavy feeder and regular fertilizing is beneficial. The first cucumbers can be harvested from the end of July. These can be eaten fresh or processed.
