The pepper ( Capsicum annuum ) belongs to the nightshade family and has its origins in South America. The peppers also include the chillies, which are a hot type. Depending on the species , the fruits come in different colours , shapes and spiciness . The best known is the sweet pepper, which bears large, red fruits when fully ripe. But the hot jalapeño with its long green pods is also well known. Peppers are grown indoors from February/March and placed in the bed or on the balcony from May/June. The plants need a bright, sunny location without drafts to thrive . The plants grow up to 90 cm tall and develop small white flowers, from which the fruit develops. From July to October you can harvest and enjoy the fruits. The hotter variants, such as chillies, are dried and can be consumed all year round.
