The rubber tree (Ficus elastica), which can grow up to 2 meters tall in our country, has become indispensable as a houseplant. It belongs to the fig family and has its origins in East India. It usually forms large dark green or yellow variegated leaves and its bark exudes a latex-like secretion when injured. Rubber can be made from this, hence the name rubber tree. It likes to stand at room temperature and should only be watered when the soil has dried again so that waterlogging does not form.
